Goal Setting

Feb 1 2014

So, with January almost behind us, and, hopefully, the very worst of our endless winter weather over as well, it is certainly time to take stock and set some goals.  Last January, when I first enrolled in the Cardio-Prevent program at the Heart Institute, it was certainly easier to set goals and keep to my program.  I was extremely motivated to lose 40 lbs., to change my eating habits and to adopt new strategies for healthy eating.  I was supported and encouraged by my family and friends and colleagues at work, as well as by my Prevention and Wellness Facilitator, as I shed the pounds.  As the year progressed, I did lose 30 pounds and, truly, I was thrilled!  However, this January is proving to be much more challenging.  The last 10 pounds are much harder to lose and the motivation to keep at this is much more difficult.  So, I am setting myself some new goals:  at Easter, my husband & I are going to British Columbia to visit my daughter and her family and by then it will be Spring (no more hiding under bulky winter clothing!) and I truly want to have lost at least some of those 10 pounds.    What certainly helped last year was keeping a log of what I ate – which I had to submit to my wonderful facilitator – so I am going to start that again.  It somehow keeps one “honest”!!  As does this blogging – so I will report at the end of February on my progress!
