Heart Keeper, Age 65, Ottawa, ON
Hello, my name is Lannie Mitchell. I am 65 years old. The issue that most affects my heart health is my weight. I have had a constant struggle with being overweight for the past 40 years. Although I'm never sick, and I do exercise daily, both my blood pressure and cholesterol are controlled by medication.
My family doctor encouraged me to participate in the CardioPrevent® program at the Heart Institute and with their help I became more aware of my food choices. The great news is that I have begun to lose the weight I needed to by eating a much more balanced diet. I still have a way to go, but I’m encouraged and motivated by the changes I've made so far.
I invite you to join me over the next 12 months as I continue to work towards my goal of reducing my risk of heart disease. By sharing some of the new strategies I have acquired, I hope that I can help others who may be facing similar challenges.
