It will never happen to me

In hindsight I had signs and clues which in most cases we find excuses to ignore the signs or think it can’t happen to me.

At the end of August 2012, I had pain in my arms and back – so I thought, "it must have been something I did or lifted".

I had indigestion, "it must have been something I ate".

I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open, "I guess I have just been working too hard at work".

They did an ECG and a blood test after the results of the blood test – they told me I was not going anywhere as my enzyme levels where high. Which I was still not sure what that all meant. After doing test, we discovered that I had 99% blockage and two stents where put in. Thankfully I had no heart damage.

Lessons learned:

  • Listen to your body – it gives you signs
  • Ask for a blood test at the hospital
  • Nobody is immune
  • High Cholesterol – take it seriously
  • Don’t drive yourself to the hospital
  • Exercise daily, eat well and get enough sleep
